National Institute of Technology Rourkela’s (NIT-R) Foundation for Technology and Business Incubation (FTBI) centre has selected two start-ups, Yarev Technology Pvt. Ltd. & Clavictor Academy Pvt. Ltd., with innovative approaches for the betterment of society at large.

A series of changes made to the so-called angel tax by the government could give wing to 7,000 cash-starved start-ups, sources in the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) said.

According to industry observers, an investment of around $12 billion might come from 2,000 angel investors and hundreds of smaller backers of start-ups by the end of the year. Of this, about $7 billion will come in the form of corporate investment.

As per the data available with Startup India, a total of 8,625 Start-ups have been recognised as on 30 March, 2018. 2711 start-ups where incorporated in 2017-18. Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP) has issued detailed norms to assess the performance of States in promoting Startups on 6th February this year.

This initiative will help bring to fore progress made by the States and Union Territories for promoting Startup ecosystem, foster competitiveness and propel them to work proactively to identify, learn and replicate good practices.

Dr. Rajeev Kumar Panda of the School of Management recently attended the Annual Festival of Innovation at the Rashtrapati Bhavan, to represent NIT Rourkela. The festival was organised by the National Innovation Foundation in collaboration with the President’s secretariat. ​The Government of Odisha has recognized 80 startups in the last two months under its Startup Odisha initiative. The statistics were revealed during the recently held meeting of the Task Force held under the Chairmanship of Shri L.N. Gupta, IAS, Additional Chief Secretary, MSME. The Task Force also revealed that 32 more applications are under process and a monthly grant of INR 20,000 has been given to eight recognized startups.

The President of India, Shri Pranab Mukherjee met top 10 winning teams of ‘Innovate for Digital India Challenge’ at Rashtrapati Bhavan today (November 19, 2015). These teams were selected through a rigorous process and they made a brief presentation of their innovative products and systems before the President.

Speaking on the occasion the President said that he was happy to learn that Department of Electronics and Information Technology has collaborated with Intel India to run the competition that aims to identify, support and mentor companies with workable IT solutions to problems in various sectors like health care, education and e-governance. He said that he was sure that the innovative Solutions presented today would be developed to benefit the citizens of the country.
